Read the Bible in One Year: Day 198 – I’m Working through My Trust Issues

1 Chronicles 24:1-26:11 / Romans 4:1-12/ Psalm 13 / Proverbs 19:15-16

My counselor used to tell me I had trust issues.  This was after a year of meeting with her, and it seemed that every time we came up against a thought pattern that needed correction and healing, it was connected to lack of trust.  That comes from being hurt and disappointed by people.

At some point I began to wonder if I would ever trust people again.  I’ve been forgiving everyone I can think of the past 3-1/2 years.  And every time something new arises, I forgive that also, even if it’s the same person or persons for the one hundredth time!

As I shared part of my story with a friend – and I keep the details very limited because that is part of my healing process in not rehashing the past – she looked at me and said, “No wonder you have trust issues!”  LOL…  boy, oh boy…

There have been a handful of friends over the past few years who have been with me through it all, and those are the ones I trust and feel safe with.  Of course, and thankfully, I feel safe with my 5 family (that’s what I call Jeff, our children and myself).  But new friendships take me awhile because it’s exhausting building something when you’re not sure what will happen.

All that said, there is One I trust and feel safe with and that is my God.  Psalm 13:5-6 tells me – But I trust in Your unfailing love.  I will rejoice because You have rescued me.  I will sing to the LORD because He is good to me.

God has always been good to me, even when bad things have happened.  He doesn’t stop all the bad, but He is with us in all the bad.  He is also a covering for the blows.  I believe that because I’m in Christ, the blows hit Him first.  Anything that comes my way has first come through Him.  Imagine if it had hit me straight on…

I’m thankful for God’s protection and care.  I’m thankful He’s always with me.  I’m thankful He covers me.  I can’t imagine life without Him.  He is in me, through me and for me.  He fights on my behalf, giving me wisdom and strength to walk through the inevitable battles that will come.  And the battles will come.

I wish I could tell you that you’ll have no battles because of the pain they bring.  But then I would be condemning you to a weak life because you will never have been trained for war.  Make no mistake, we are in a spiritual war.  If we don’t go through hard things, we will not learn, grow, and become stronger.

The devil is attempting to take away our very lives, along with everything that is dear to us.  But the good news is, he has lost already!  Because of what Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross – purchasing my forgiveness, salvation, healing, deliverance, freedom, and everything else I’ll ever need in this life and the next – I am more than a conqueror through Him!

Even when it looks like my life is being ruined, if I’m in Christ, I am actually winning!  I know it seems crazy, but it’s true!  Look at the back of the book – the end of the story – it says YOU WIN!  We win because Jesus Christ has won and because we are His.  End.  Of.  Story.
