Read the Bible in One Year: Day 5 – Unity Brings Power

Genesis 11:1-13:4 / Matthew 5:1-26 / Psalm 5 / Proverbs 1:24-28

The story of the tower of Babel is usually seen in a negative light and I understand it being so because the people were acting on their own plan instead of God’s.  But when I read the account today, I had an opposite thought regarding Genesis 11:6.

“Look!” {God} said.  “The people are united, and they all speak the same language.  After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them!”

“Unity brings power” is the message I’m hearing in God’s words regarding these people who had settled in Babylonia.

Perhaps the body of Christ would benefit from finding a way to settle upon true unity.  I sure don’t have an answer as to how we’d accomplish that; other than perhaps aligning ourselves with the plan God has for our households, cities, states and nation.

And it’s the remnant of the body of Christ that will make a difference in the earth because they know they are part of another kingdom which is Heaven.

Matthew 5 is filled with clues about the true people of God, or the remnant as I call them.  What do they look like?  What do they believe?  Who are they?

Here are just a few descriptors:

They realize their need for God / They are humble

They long for justice / They are merciful

They are pure-hearted / They work for peace

They are persecuted for doing right

And a few more:

They are the salt of the earth – they bring awakening and truth to a dying world.

They are the light of the world – the good they do points to the Father’s glory.

And we can’t point to the Father’s glory unless we are walking according to His plan for us.  Psalm 5:8 is a beautiful and short prayer to that end.  “Lead me in the right path, O LORD, or my enemies will conquer me.  Make your way plain for me to follow.”

That is my prayer for you and me today.  That we would be united, not only with one another, but more importantly with God’s heart and plan.

What do you hear Him saying to you today about His plan?
