Holy Spirit is our Curse Breaker

John 14:26 in the (The Passion Translation, TPT) reads:

But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness, the One like me who sets you free, he will teach you all things in my name. And he will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you.
The phrase sets you free in the Aramaic means the redeemer from the curse

I want to back up to verse 17 in John 14 for a little clearer picture of who the Spirit of Holiness is:

And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Savior, the Holy Spirit of Truth, who will be to you a friend just like me—and He will never leave you. The world won’t receive Him because they can’t see Him or know Him. But you know Him intimately because He remains with you and will live inside you. (TPT)

The phrase another Savior is full of meaning when we study the original Greek language. Prepare to have your mind blown at the revelation that continues to confirm that Holy Spirit is one part of our triune God. When scripture says another it means another of the same kind. Other words used for Holy Spirit are counselor, comforter, advocate, encourager, intercessor, or helper. Jesus is our Savior from the guilt of sin. Holy Spirit is our Savior from the power of sin. He does this by living through us to overcome sin and be transformed.

The meaning for Savior is where it gets deep and beautiful! The Greek word used for Savior may be translated as a defense attorney. It means one called to stand next to you as a helper.  Even if we combine all these words, we have not yet reached the fullness of Holy Spirit’s role in our lives. The word Savior is intended to convey that Holy Spirit is One who protects, defends, and saves us from ourselves and our enemies and keeps us whole and healed. He guides, defends, comforts, and consoles.

Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, who is our Savior. The Aramaic word for Holy Spirit is paraqleta, It is taken from two root words: praq, which means to end, finish, or save, and lyta, which means the curse. Therefore, Holy Spirit has come to end the curse of sin in our lives and to save us from its every effect. We could say that paraqleta means a Redeemer who ends the curse.

I want to revisit the Truth that Holy Spirit is God. Some of us are fully invested in that Truth, and some of us see Holy Spirit as an add-on or as less than God. I totally understand! It’s hard to wrap our human minds around God being three separate, but equal parts. So, I won’t ask you to wrap your mind around it; I’ll instead ask you to receive this doctrine of the Trinity by faith.

You’ve heard these two examples and maybe they are helpful. An egg with its three parts is still called an egg. The egg consists of a shell, a white, and a yolk (some would argue there is also a membrane). You’ve also heard that water, steam, and ice are all still simply and only water.

I’ll leave you with a final, beautiful thought. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty. Early in the morning, our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy, merciful, and mighty. God in three persons; blessed Trinity!
