Judges 4-5 / Luke 22:35-53 / Psalm 94 / Proverbs 14:3-4
¹⁶ Who will protect me from the wicked?
Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
¹⁷ Unless the LORD had helped me,
I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave.
¹⁸ I cried out, “I am slipping!”
but your unfailing love, O LORD, supported me.
¹⁹ When doubts filled my mind,
your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. (Psalm 94)
Did you have a big brother who could rescue you when a bully threatened you? Or a big, tough dad that everyone was afraid to mess with? I had neither, but I only remember one instance where someone wanted to beat me up. There was a boy who she liked, but he liked me so she was gonna let me have it. I told her she could have him! I wonder how that worked out lol!
My brother was 6 years younger and though my daddy was no sissy, he was more a lover than a fighter. I was definitely on my own. But when it comes to the enemy trying to pound on me, I know where to run! And he better watch out because God is a great Defender.
Therefore, I love the Psalms where the writer is asking God to help him. And I love verse 18 that states God’s unfailing love supported him. I’m wondering, what does that support look like? The writer said, “I’m slipping”, so I imagine a strong arm reaching out to catch him so he doesn’t fall.
Our “slips” are not usually physical, but emotional, mental or spiritual. When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer. Our minds are the biggest field of battle when we are Jesus followers. If the enemy can attack in the hidden place of our mind, where no one can see, he can gain an advantage. We must guard our hearts and minds In Christ Jesus.
Please don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed. Reach out for help. Reach out to God and to people. We were created for community. We all need it. We all should take advantage of the support God has provided.
Today in our service I was blessed to ask for and receive healing prayer, and I’m feeling so much better. God’s healing was at work through my community. I want to pass along my blessing.
Please let me know how I can pray for you today!
