Genesis 26;17-27:46 / Matthew 9:1-17 / Psalm 10:16-18 / Proverbs 3:9-10
Between yesterday’s devotional and today’s, we have experienced the sudden passing of our future son-in-law, so my posts may reflect the grief we are walking through for a time. Of course, as with all of life, all of the emotions will be experienced and shared. We covet your continued prayers for our family and his. It’s the great loss of an extremely gentle soul.
In Matthew 9:6 it says, “I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.”
And later in verse 12 “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.”
What great hope and promise of new days these two verses offer! Some of us think our sins define us, both for today and for the future, but I strongly argue that point. There is forgiveness through Jesus Christ!
And to whom was Jesus referring when he mentioned the healthy and the sick? He was referencing those with whom He was choosing to spend time – the tax collectors and sinners. He understood where the need was, and He went straight to the heart of that need.
We must do the same. We must love and have compassion for those who have not yet seen the Hope.
Psalm 10:17 “You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed…”
When life seems hard, when hope has disappeared, God is always there with His Spirit to comfort us and give us strength for today.
And that is our only hope in hard times!
My beautiful aunt asked, “How does one get past this?” My answer was, “Jesus is our only hope of moving beyond this. Nothing in us can do it or we could have saved Bradley.” Her response, “Wise words. She’s (our daughter Abigail) lucky to have you!”
And that’s truth. Nothing in us can save those we love. Each of us must depend on the gift of salvation that Jesus provided.
Please depend on Him today.
