Read the Bible in One Year: Day 128 – The Lord Himself Fights for Me

1 Samuel 2:22-4 / John 5:24-47 / Psalm 106:1-12 / Proverbs 14:30-31

I’ve been noticing as I’ve read the Old Testament a name for the Lord that is intriguing me, especially since my current declaration from the Lord is The Lord Himself fights for me.  The name of God I’m referring to is The Lord of Heaven’s Armies or Yahweh Sabaoth.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a warrior.  I’ve spoken of it several times on my blog and in my life.  My daddy was also a warrior.  As a matter of fact, I began his eulogy this way… At the age of 78, on October 3, 2016, the great warrior returned home.  He entered into his rest.  His battles have been fought, they have been won, and his reward has begun.

I love movies with the theme of good vs evil, especially when good triumphs, because as followers of Jesus Christ, we already know the end of the story.  Jesus spoke of it on the cross when He said, “It is finished.”  That means WE WIN!

I don’t enjoy violence or killing, but I do love a good battle with a shout of victory at the end!  I love to imagine myself vanquishing enemies from my life and the lives of those I love.  As a matter of fact, when I pray for my family, I’m always asking God for the angels to be posted at my boundaries to help with the battles at hand.

Speaking of my boundaries, the Lord has recently expanded my vision of what my boundaries include.  As I prayed, I imagined a line around my property and around the property of my daughters (our son lives here, so he’s covered).  One day Holy Spirit instructed me that my boundaries were not linear, but that they also included the air around me to the highest heaven and the lowest depths of the earth.  Talk about expansion of one’s boundaries!

The concept that has been harder for me to walk in is the one that my declaration is teaching me, and that is the Lord fights FOR ME.  Scripture tells us to be still and see the salvation of the Lord.  It also tells us that He is our strong tower and shield.  It tells us that we are hidden under the shadow of His wings.  Yes, we are told to put on our armor, so I think there are times we battle, as well as times we rest.  The Lord is clearly calling me into a season of resting from battles, allowing Him to do the fighting.

That doesn’t mean I won’t pray and worship – my greatest places of battle and victory.  Of course, I will!  This is more about a mindset shift for me, and I’m very willing to allow the Lord to teach me to hide in Him.  I think it’s going to become more necessary as the days go by.  I get a sense that a storm is coming and the best place for a daughter of the King to be in a storm is the Stronghold.

Will you join me there?  I have a feeling we’ll be thankful for the friendly faces around us.
