2 Samuel 20:14-21:22 / Acts 1 / Psalm 121 / Proverbs 16:18
Jeff and I are at Youth Camp with our daughter Katherine, her hubby Josh and Heritage and Oliver – and of course about 50 awesome teens! It’s cooler than we expected, and today is a rainy day – a perfect day to take a break and write! And here’s where my thoughts took me as I read today’s scriptures.
There are times I feel alone and afraid. As a matter of fact, I don’t like being in the house alone, especially at night. We’ve never had anyone try to break in (although we did have our cars ransacked a few years ago, and Jeff’s truck was stolen). I’ve often wondered why am I afraid? What am I afraid of?
Most of the time I’m fearful of the unknown, or of what “could” or “might” happen. The Bible calls that “borrowing trouble.” (Matthew 6:34) Jeff sometimes plays what I like to call “The What If Game”, and it drives me crazy! He’ll think of the worst possible scenario and talk about it until he’s all upset. 99% of the time, this scenario will never come to pass, so he’s created a myth of fear by talking about the “what if’s”.
I always ask him to stop. I figure I have enough in my brain without creating and meditating on scary things that might happen! I wonder why our first thoughts are fearful instead of faith-filled? I have a feeling it’s a direct result of what we meditate on. That said, who wants to make a pact with me? That we choose to meditate upon and dream about good things happening. What if I believe these verses and turn my “what if” game on it’s head?! We’ll call our new game What If Faith!
Let’s begin our What if Faith game with Psalm 121, and I encourage you to speak this to the Lord as a prayer. God’s Word is Truth – no what if’s included!!
Psalm 121 The Passion Translation
I look up to the mountains and hills, longing for God’s help. But then I realize that our true help and protection is only from the Lord, our Creator who made the heavens and the earth.
He will guard and guide me, never letting me stumble or fall. God is my keeper; he will never forget nor ignore me.
He will never slumber nor sleep; he is the Guardian-God for his people, Israel.
Yahweh himself will watch over you; he’s always at your side to shelter you safely in his presence.
He’s protecting you from all danger both day and night.
He will keep you from every form of evil or calamity as he continuously watches over you. You will be guarded by God himself. You will be safe when you leave your home, and safely you will return. He will protect you now, and he’ll protect you forevermore!
Now, isn’t that form of the What If game much better?
This was a blessing
