Read the Bible in One Year: Day 177 – You are a Mighty Warrior

2 Kings 9:14-10:31 / Acts 17 / Psalm 144 / Proverbs 17:27-28

Who among my readers considers yourself to be a warrior in the Spirit?  Today, I want to talk to you about your inheritance and your rights as a son or daughter of the King.  I don’t think most of us realize who we are in Christ.  We are not simply humans existing here on earth.  We are so much more, and we are meant to accomplish great and mighty things in God’s Kingdom!

Why do I believe this?  Because scripture tells me the Truth of who I am in Christ.  There is not time in this post to lay out your entire inheritance, but wouldn’t that be a fascinating study!  It would likely take the rest of your lifetime to grasp.  However, I will start with a portion from Psalm 144 and from Psalm 8Psalm 8 is something I was reading a few days ago apart from my regular reading.

Psalm 144:1-2 NLT Praise the LORD, who is my rock.  He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.  He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer.  He is my shield, and I take refuge in Him.  He makes the nations submit to me.

Psalm 8:6 NLT You gave them (us) charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority…

These two sections from Psalms give us a great peek into who we are and what God has given us.  We have been given authority over all things God made.  Did you know that?  ALL things are under your authority – everything God created both in the natural and in the spirit.

But we don’t wield this authority alone.  Did you see in Psalm 144 that God is our loving ally?  As I’ve read through the Old Testament this year, I’ve noticed that alliances were made before going to war.  Most kings did not fight alone, but instead asked a neighboring king to align with them before they went into battle.

It is not different with us, except we have THE KING as our ally.  That means victory is assured because scripture says in 1 Corinthians 15:27 about Jesus Christ “God has put all things under His authority.”  And again, because we are in Christ, all things are also under our authority.  Is this a double whammy?  I think so!

My ally is the King of the universe.  Everything is under His authority.  He has also given me authority over all things.  So, why do I get my butt kicked at times?  I think it’s because we have forgotten to take our position of power in God’s Spirit.

When Jesus was on the cross the last words He spoke were, “It is finished.”  He still had to go into hell and destroy the devil, taking away the keys to death, hell, and the grave, but I believe the minute Jesus breathed his last, the devil knew he had lost everything.  The devil thought He was killing the King of the universe and that he would now have free reign.  Not so.

Jesus went into enemy territory and completely annihilated the domain of satan, and since that victory is our foundation, we are now free to destroy every work the enemy attempts to bring against us.  We can stand against every temptation, sickness, sorrow, etc. that satan throws at us, and make no mistake, these are the weapons the devil attempts to use against us.  But they have no power!

We are the ones who hold the power and authority over every evil thing because of what Jesus Christ has given us!  I implore you to believe this, take hold of this, walk in this Truth and see if your entire life doesn’t shift.  You will begin to walk in victory instead of defeat.  Will things still irritate you?  Yes, but you are armed to battle all things!

So, put on your armor (Ephesians 6) and get to it!  No sitting around.  No whining and complaining.  Take up your sword and shield mighty warrior, and put the devil back in his place.  He has no right and no authority in your life.
