1 Chronicles 4:5-5:17 / Acts 25 / Psalm 5 / Proverbs 18:19
Have you ever felt surrounded and not in a good way? Maybe it was a group of friends teasing you, or maybe it was something unseen that you couldn’t quite explain but you felt uncertain. Yes, the air surrounds us in the natural world. But we are also surrounded by the spiritual world, even if we can’t see what’s there.
I guess that might seem kinda creepy – to be surrounded by things and beings one can’t see. I can understand that. There are times I’m walking through my house at night, and I feel a presence that disturbs my spirit. It is then I begin to pray because if you’ve read about or listened to my YouTube videos about my territory, you know those unseen “scaries” are not allowed in my space!
But we are also surrounded by the Lord. As I considered the word “surround” several verses came to mind. The first was from my reading today in Psalm 5:12 and it states For you bless the godly, O LORD; You surround them with Your shield of love.
Most of the time a shield is for front defense only, but God’s Love Shield surrounds us, protecting even our back! What else surrounds me? Psalm 32:7 NASB states You are my hiding place; You keep me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
Songs of deliverance are songs that are declaring my freedom! What else surrounds me? Let’s list a couple more…
Psalm 32:10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but he who trusts in the LORD, lovingkindness shall surround him.
Psalm 125:2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.
There may be a few more, but these are amazing and encouraging! To recap with what and Who we are surrounded:
- His shield of love
- Songs of freedom
- Lovingkindness
- The Lord
Do you feel protected and safe? I sure do! The next time you feel surrounded by evil, or taunting, or whatever would attempt to put fear or intimidation upon you, remember the four things above. I believe God’s surrounding far surpasses any other thing that would attempt to surround you! Rest secure in Him. Do not fear what man or the unseen world can do to you, because you are surrounded and protected by the LORD Himself!
