1 Chronicles 7-8 / Acts 27:1-20 / Psalm 7 / Proverbs 18:22
Marriage is valued by God, and yes, marriage is a traditional covenant between a man and a woman with God as the sealer of that relationship. God created man, then he created woman from man. God knew man needed a helper, a partner, someone to walk with him. I believe God also knew that we women needed the same.
I have compassion for my single friends who wish to be married and not alone. We were not meant to be alone. We are meant to live in community. And while I know my single friends are thankful for their families and friends, I join my prayers with theirs for that longed-for mate!
Ladies who are blessed to be a wife, did you know the Bible says you are a treasure to your husband? Yes, it’s true. Proverbs 18:22 tells us, “The man who finds a wife find a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.” Not only are we a treasure, because of us our husbands receive favor from God.
I plan to live 120 years, and I realize many of my friends don’t see life this way. They don’t want to be “old” and still living on earth. I happen to want to be here as long as the Lord allows so I may bring my song into the earth. Then I will happily move my residence to Heaven when God says it’s time! If I’m going to live to 120, I’ve told Jeff he must do the same. After all, I want my best friend to enjoy long life with me.
Whether this is God’s plan or not, I plan to live an abundant life and to enjoy every minute with the blessing God gave me in Jeff. And I think I need to remind him that I’m a treasure and I bring him favor… won’t that be fun to do!
In our home and at our home church, we belief that women are co-equal with men. God says so in His Word! There is not time for a full study or proof here, but I can recommend some reading material and some scriptures if you want to explore this further. Suffice to say that in all of scripture there were women in leadership alongside men. One is not of more value than the other.
If I’m a treasure to my husband and bring him favor, what do I get out of the union? Again, I’m sure there are many answers to this question, but one I’d like to mention is the safety and security that comes from my husband being submitted to God and loving me as Christ loves His Church. That is a powerful love!
So, wives, when your husband comes home tonight, let’s have a little fun with him. You should tell him that you are his treasure and that he has favor because of you. I’m sure there may be mixed reactions – raised eyebrows, smiles, laughs, quizzical looks. But I bet some of you will receive affirmation and hugs. I know that’s what I’ll receive!
