Genesis 3, 4 / Matthew 2:13-3:6 / Psalm 2 / Proverbs 1:7-9
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the LORD God had made.
What a fascinating sentence! Does this mean all animals were created as shrewd?
What does that word mean?
Shrewd is “marked by clever discerning awareness, or given to wily and artful ways or dealing.”
Now my mind is racing; is this where C. S. Lewis got his ideas for talking animals in The Chronicles of Narnia? Even though that’s intriguing to me, that’s not what I want to focus on here. LOL
The conversation between the shrewd serpent and Eve continues, and Eve, desiring the wisdom eating the fruit would give her, eats. And don’t we also want wisdom? Don’t we want answers for our lives? To know that we’re doing the right things at the right time? Yes, we do; especially in the chaotic time we find ourselves living.
The good news is we as the people of God have an advantage! God warned Joseph in a dream to run from Egypt in order to protect the child who Herod was still trying to kill. And if we’re listening to the voice of God in a personal way, we will also have wisdom, direction and an advantage!
Aren’t we all trying to “win”, to “get ahead”? But I think we get it upside down many times when we try to use our own or worldly wisdom.
What joy for all who take refuge in Him! (Psalm 2)
Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge. (Proverb 1)
