2 Chronicles 1-3 / Romans 6 / Psalm 16 / Proverbs 19:20-21
In 1998 I was surprised to learn that a longtime family friend wanted me to be the executrix of her will and estate. What I didn’t know when I signed the paperwork was that she was dying and would be with the Lord about 2 weeks later. She asked me to bring to the hospital all her earrings for her to choose a pair to wear. I didn’t know how little time she had left.
After Myra passed, we were further surprised to learn she had left us everything she owned in her will. I guess that’s why her lawyer was with her that day we visited in the hospital. As he read to us her wishes, we realized that we had been made sole owners of her home, her insurance, her retirement, and all contents – everything. To say we were shocked is an understatement.
As we sorted through everything in her home, preparing to empty the house so we could sell it, we made some beautiful walks down memory lane. Myra had been a congregant in the church my dad pastored for 8 years. After the church closed, and my parents moved to NC, Myra still called me to talk and ask me to pray. I suppose my love and sharing blessed her.
As I read Psalm 16, there were several verses that stuck out to me. Verse 2 – I said to the LORD, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.” Verse 5 – LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. Verse 6 – The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance!
Did Myra leave us her possessions because she loved me? Or had the LORD wanted to bless my family to help us fulfill His word to us? I believe it was both! A couple of years prior, Jeff came home from work one day telling me he had heard God tell him we needed to be out of debt within 5 years.
If my hubby comes home with direction from the Lord, I’m all in! So, we began attacking the principle on our mortgage every time he got a bonus at his job in the car business. Jeff was good at his job and God blessed us. With the money Myra left us, the house was paid off.
Every good thing comes from Him.
He guards all that is mine.
What a wonderful inheritance!
We have had several stories of God speaking, then providing as we obeyed His word to us. God has faithfully led us every step of the way, even in the steps where we could not see His feet. There are times I don’t understand His goodness to me. There are times I don’t feel I deserve His love. Yet there He is every moment blessing my family and me with Himself.
He is doing the same thing for you! It’s just a matter of opening your eyes and your heart so you can see and comprehend His blessings. We sang a song Sunday and one of the lines says, “His goodness is running after, it’s running after me!” I believe He chases us down with blessings because He loves us more than words.
Quick! Look behind you! There He is again, chasing you down to bless you!
