2 Chronicles 21-23 / Romans 11:13-36 / Psalm 22:1-18 / Proverbs 20:7
Have you ever looked around you and wondered where everything you see came from? How did it get here? I’m not talking about the trees you planted or the houses you’ve built, the cars you drive, etc. Those are created or planted by men. How did it all begin? Was there a “big bang”, or an explosion, and suddenly everything was created and came into order?
Logically I don’t see how an explosion would have created order. Usually, an explosion creates destruction and chaos. If you love science at all, you’ve likely noticed patterns to the world around you. Flowers have petals that sprout from a center, and roses have concentric petals in layers. When snowflakes are placed under a microscope (before they melt), they have beautiful, intricate patterns.
I could go on and on with examples from nature that prove a type of order and structure to the life around us. Even our bodies have order and structure. For example, has anyone ever seen the helix and structure of our DNA or our cells under a microscope? It’s fascinating.
I believe that God created the heavens and the earth as Genesis 1:1 explains – In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. John 1:1-3 tells us that “in the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through Him.”
I’m considering all these thoughts again because of what I read today in Romans 11:36 – For everything comes from him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.
If the Bible says God created everything and that all things still have existence because of His power, I believe that to be true. Some believe God created the earth, then left it and us to fend for ourselves; that belief is called Deism, a belief that God is unconcerned and unattached with His creation.
The verse in Romans tells otherwise. That verse says everything still exists by His power (or is upheld by the Word of His power – Hebrews 1:3). This doesn’t sound like an uninterested, distant God to me. I believe he is intimately involved and concerned with His creation.
Another verse leads me to believe in God’s loving concern for us. John 3:16 For this is how God loved the world. He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
He created all things. He keeps all things in order. He is lovingly concerned about all things. This describes a small part of God’s nature. God is love, so He will not leave His creation to implode and destroy itself even though man certainly tries!
It’s important that we know God for Who He is and not according to the false ideas others may tell us. You will find the Truth of His nature as you study scripture for yourself. That is part of why I wanted to read through the Bible again this year, and why I wanted to take you on this journey with me.
We cannot know God based only on what others tell us. We must see and hear for ourselves the Truth. I encourage you to continue reading, studying, and asking questions. Don’t believe something just because someone told you it’s true. Read, listen, then ask God to reveal Truth. He will do it!
