Genesis 44-45 / Matthew 14:13-36 / Psalm 18:37-50 / Proverbs 4:11-13
I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered. I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet.
Are y’all ready to see my warrior side? Ready or not, here I come!
Those verses above and the ones that follow fire me up! I know that I appear to be a mild mannered momma and Gigi, and I am. But there’s also a no nonsense, don’t mess with me or my people side.
Once I know you’re part of my people, watch out if anyone tries to mess with you.
That said, I think it’s important to look at who our enemies are. As Christians we have one great enemy who is always trying to weasel his way in to steal our stuff, kill our dreams and destroy our faith. The other aspect is that he works through people.
The Bible says we don’t fight with flesh and blood, but with principalities and powers (evil spirits). That’s true. But I’m allowed to distance myself from people who are ruled by those spirits. I don’t have to allow any and every person into my space. And neither do you!
But neither do I get to think about people when I read those verses from Psalm 18. But I can sure as heck think about chasing down and conquering those evil spirits who are bothering my people and me. I’m going to make them pay. But how?
With worship, praise, and prayer. Little “d” hates all these… (that’s how I refer to the enemy, the devil. He’s also “little s”)
There is one more powerful weapon when we are standing against the enemy and that is forgiveness. Sometimes it’s hard to separate the fact that people are not our enemies. So, when the enemy is attacking us through those we love, our best defense is to forgive those who hurt us.
Is there anyone today that you have not forgiven? If you’re unsure, say a quick prayer to ask. God will show you and you’ll have an opportunity to walk away with a lighter heart.
