Read the Bible in One Year Day 226 – Put Your Hope in God

Nehemiah 7:73-9:21 / 1 Corinthians 9:1-18 / Psalm 33:12-22 / Proverbs 21:11-12

Here it is August 14, 2021, and our world is still going crazy.  The reports from our government are scary.  Even my home state of Tennessee is talking about things that might cause one’s heart to fail them.  Our hope must remain in the Lord, especially during times when our lives, our ability to earn an income for our family and provide for them is being threatened.  I’m not sure when in history you will be reading this devotional, but the stories about 2020 and 2021 were real.

It’s during times like these that I’m especially thankful for the book of Psalms.  David, who wrote most of the Psalms, certainly understood difficult times and he was careful to write about his experiences for us to take courage from in our day.  David didn’t hold back.  He spoke of the terrible things he endured, but he always came back around to speaking of the goodness of his God and we must do the same if we are to survive the difficult times.

The verses from Psalm 33 were very encouraging to read today!  I will include them here for you to take courage from. Allow these verses to “put courage in you”!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He chose for His inheritance. From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth – He who forms the heart of all, who considers everything they do.

No king is saved by the size of his army, no warrior escapes by his great strength.  A horse is a vain hope for deliverance, despite all its great strength it cannot save.  But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him, on those whose hope is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.  In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name.  May Your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in You.

Take courage.  Be strong.  Have hope.  The Lord your God is with you
