Read the Bible in One Year: Day 23 – Sweeter Than Honey

Genesis 46-47 / Matthew 15:1-28 / Psalm 19 / Proverbs 4:14-19

They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.

What are they?  What could possibly be more valuable than gold and sweeter than honey?

7 The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.

8 The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.

9 Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair.

Some think that following rules, command, laws, etc. is tedious and constricting. And I get that. I tend to be a little bit of a hippie myself and I don’t like rules that box me in or steal my creativity.

But what if God’s rules are different?

I love to call God’s Kingdom the Upside Down World.  Why?  Because everything there is totally opposite of everything here. I was talking to my daughter and her friend last night and telling them how there is no way we can comprehend Heaven with our human mind.

Nothing in our humanity understands God.  If you’ve ever read John’s descriptions in Revelation, you’ll see that describing Heaven is all but impossible.  So why would we read the Bible and try to understand it from a human perspective?

We must allow the Holy Spirit to reveal Truth to us.  To me, that’s the beginning of a great adventure!  I can’t simply apply my mind to understand: I must dig out or mine out the Truth of the Bible like I would gold.  And the value of that Truth lasts far beyond this world.  I’ll get to keep these treasures forever.

What do you think of the Upside Down World?  Is it real?  What have been your experiences of Heaven and Truth?  Would you share?
