Isaiah 10-11 / 2 Corinthians 12:11-21 / Psalm 56 / Proverbs 23:6-8

On Wheat or Chaff we have been studying through a series called The 7 Spirits of God taken from Isaiah 11:2. As part of my reading today, I read verses one and two and wanted to give a little more information, specifically from The Passion Translation because it gives such great insight. I’ve heard that TPT of the Bible is one of the most accurate renditions from both the original Hebrew and Greek. As one who appreciates accurate doctrine, I’m thankful to have found this translation from which to study.
Let’s begin with those two verses from TPT, then I want to give you a little more information on the 7 Spirits. I encourage you to do further study because there is not enough space or time for me to exhaustively study each one.
Isaiah 11:1-2 TPT The cut-off stump of Jesse will sprout, and a fruitful Branch will grow from his roots: the Spirit of Yahweh will rest upon him, the Spirit of Extraordinary Wisdom, the Spirit of Perfect Understanding the Spirit of Wise Strategy, the Spirit of Mighty Power, the Spirit of Revelation, and the Spirit of the Fear of Yahweh.
Jesse refers to the royal family line of King David, out of which came Jesus Christ. This prophecy is referring to Jesus and telling us the Spirits of the Heavenly realm that will rest upon Him as He lives His sinless life on earth. The first Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of Yahweh, which is the Spirit of prophecy, or the manifest presence of God, His Father.
John 1:32-34 confirms this Spirit of Yahweh upon Jesus. Then, as he baptized Jesus, he proclaimed these words: “I see the Spirit of God appear like a dove descending from the heavenly realm and landing upon him—and it remained on him! Before this I didn’t know who he was. But the one who sent me to baptize with water had told me, ‘You will see the Spirit come down and stay on someone. He will be the One I have sent to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ Now I have seen this happen and I can tell you for sure that this man is the Son of God.
The second Spirit that rested upon Jesus was the Spirit of Extraordinary Wisdom which is “the Spirit of Skillfulness” (Exodus 31:2-4). This gives equipping ability for music, art, business, writing, creativity, and wisdom for judicial decisions.
The third Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of Perfect Understanding which is “the Spirit of Intelligent Insight.” This imparts the ability to discern the truth, to know the meaning of riddles, and to decipher parables and allegories.
The fourth Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of Wise Strategy which is “the Spirit of Guidance.” This is the Hebrew word etsah and is used numerous times in the Old Testament for “counsel, advice, or purpose.” It is also used for steering (guiding) a ship. This anointing imparts the wisdom and counsel needed for spiritual leadership.
The fifth Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of Mighty Power which is the Spirit of a Mighty Warrior
The sixth Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of Revelation which is “the Spirit of Knowledge.” This is not knowledge that is learned from books or study but knowledge that comes from experiencing intimacy with God.
The seventh and final Spirit upon Jesus was the Spirit of the Fear of Yahweh which is a reverence and partnership with His Father.
