Read the Bible in One Year Day 261 – My Soul Finds Rest

Isaiah 28:14-30:11 / Galatians 3:23-4:31 / Psalm 62 / Proverbs 23:19-21

This world and its craziness is not stopping.  The Spiritual atmosphere is thick, heavy, and depressive.  Many are becoming weary, tired, and tempted to give up the fight.  But we must not do that.  The enemy is counting on our fatigue so that we will no longer stand in the Spirit.  It is the Lord who gives us strength to continue to stand.  There are times the fight is exhausting and even standing seems like a huge task.

In those times be assured that the Lord is with you.  His Spirit remains strong and steadfast even when you are losing hope.  I believe all it takes is one glance in His direction or one whispered prayer and He is right there close by, ready to give you what you need.  Our God does not grow tired, and He never loses hope because He is completely in charge, and He knows the end of the story.

In the midst of all this heaviness in the Spirit, I came across a refreshing couple of verses today.  Psalm 62:1-2 NLT stays this, “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him.  Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will never be shaken.”

I love the word for “rest” in verse 1.  It is the word dumiya and is pronounced doo-me-yaw.  The meaning of this word brings rest just reading it.  It means silence, still, repose, still waiting, quiet, ease from pain, the silent expectation of divine aid, confidence placed in God.

Add this meaning to that of the word “salvation” and one is beginning to feel a little hope returning.  The word for salvation in verse 1 is yesua, pronounced yesh-oo-aw.  Does that remind anyone else of the Hebrew name for Jesus?  It does me!  The meaning of this powerful word is deliverance, prosperity, and victory.  It also means that which is delivered and safe.

One final word I want to highlight is the word “rock”.  The Hebrew word is sur and is pronounced tsoor.  It means, among other things, place of security, symbol of firmness, figurative of God as support and defense of His people.

I hope that you are feeling stronger after reading these definitions.  I know it’s helping me.  The craziness may not subside any time soon and the oppressive spiritual atmosphere may continue for a time, but we have a safe place in God that we can run to.  Honestly, we should remember that we are hidden in Him at all times, not just the difficult ones.

I encourage you to hide in Him right now, read those verses above out loud, and sit in His presence.  Your circumstances may not change right away, but you will have peace in your soul.  God bless and strengthen you today!
