Read the Bible in One Year Day 268 – Is God a Wooden Statue?

Isaiah 45:11-48 / Ephesians 4:1-16 / Psalm 68:19-35 / Proverbs 24:3-4

As I’ve read in Isaiah the last few days, I’ve been curious as to why anyone would worship something that was created.  Isn’t the one who made the thing greater than the created thing?  Many verses speak about idols made from wood or metal.  How can an object made of wood or metal hear your prayers?  Or answer and give you any kind of power?  It’s not logical that praying to a statue would be of any benefit, yet people still do it.  I suppose that’s what it looks like when one is deceived.

There is a lot of deception on the earth; there always has been since the incident in the garden when the serpent deceived Eve.  We all have areas where we remain deceived.  Full revelation of truth will not come until we are in Heaven, for those who are in Christ Jesus.  For now, we do our best to listen to God’s Spirit to help us discern Truth.

Here is one verse that has me considering the deception of worshipping created objects.  Isaiah 45:20 Gather together and come; assemble you fugitives from the nations.  Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save.

Like I said, the past few chapters have been filled with verses just like this one.  Those who worship idols of wood are called “ignorant”.  Those who are ignorant have no knowledge; they don’t know any better.  Either they haven’t been taught, or they’ve been taught the wrong things, and no one has ever shown them the Truth.  Sometimes people don’t believe it when you tell them the Truth; they need a demonstration of some kind.  The power of God can demonstrate and validate who He is.

Isaiah 45:24, 25 states for us who God really is.  They will say of me, “in the LORD alone are deliverance and strength.” All who have raged against Him will come to Him and be put to shame. But all the descendants of Israel will find deliverance in the LORD and will make their boast in Him.

Isaiah 46:4 reveals to us how God truly cares for those who are His. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you.  I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Why would one not want to look to this God for answers and help? There are those who don’t believe God is real.  What harm would it do to ask Him to reveal Himself?  What have you got to lose?  I’ve said this before.  If I’m wrong in believing that God is real, I’ve lost nothing.  If you’re wrong in believe He doesn’t exist, you’ve lost everything.  We will all know the Truth one day.  I pray you know on this side of eternity.

I have a challenge, and this challenge applies whether you believe God is real or not.  Ask God to show you who He is.  Speak out to “whomever” and then wait for an answer, either audible, or in your heart or seen with your eyes.  One never knows how the Creator may choose to reveal Himself.  If there is a creation, there is a Creator.  Even logic would tell us that much. I pray you find the Creator today because He also has the instruction manual for your life and for why He made you as He did.
