Isaiah 54:1-57:14 / Ephesians 6 / Psalm 70 / Proverbs 24:8
When you are thirsty, what is your favorite drink? Some love a good coca cola. Some love iced tea, and some love water. I’ve heard that only water will truly quench thirst as we’re made up of about 60% water overall (we talked about that yesterday). I’ve heard that the tannins in tea can be dehydrating so even though we may think we’re doing well to drink tea, it’s potentially having the opposite effect. And don’t even get me started on the ills of sodas… LOL!
Jesus is always talking to His people, letting them know that He has everything they need. He even calls out to those who do not believe in and trust Him, knowing He has everything they are looking for – peace, safety, satisfaction, and any other thing they would ever need. Please read these verses from Isaiah 55 and then let’s talk!
Isaiah 55:1-5 NLT Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. See how I used him to display my power among the peoples. I made him a leader among the nations. You also will command nations you do not know, and peoples unknown to you will come running to obey, because I, the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”
God is offering free food and drinks! Of course, these are not the food and drinks we think of when we’re physically hungry; these provisions will satisfy our souls. Have you ever felt a deep inner longing that you had no way to satisfy? Something felt off, or you felt empty, but you had no way to relieve the pain of that feeling. God’s Spirit can fill that place.
Have you ever had an agitation in your soul that no matter what you did to fix it, nothing worked? You tried reading, resting, eating something, going on a shopping spree, anything you could to try to relief that agitation. Nothing worked. You still felt that terrible unrest.
God’s Spirit can calm that agitation in your soul. I’ll be so bold as to say that nothing else will help you. Sure, the activities and substances you try may temporarily relieve pain and pressure, but nothing will give you that deep satisfaction like some Jesus in your soul.
And all you must do is “come to Him”. How do you do that? A sigh, a look His direction, a prayer, a cry – He hears and sees it all, and He knows when your heart is reaching out to Him. I promise you He will reach right back, instantly! He is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). He receives us when we boldly approach His throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). He is waiting for you to nod, and He will come running to rescue, comfort and fulfill every place in your heart that needs healing.
How do I know this to be true? I’ve been in this place over and over again. He has met me every time. He loves you. He wants to spend time with you. He is waiting. Will you come?
