Read the Bible in One Year: Day 32 – When Given a Choice…

Exodus 13:17-15:18 / Matthew 21:23-46 / Psalm 26 / Proverbs 6:16-19

Do people ever make you so angry that you just want to slap them?!  Okay, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but you can’t tell me you’ve never wished to do that…  well, maybe you can.  I do have some friends who are gentler of heart than myself lol!

Even if you don’t want to physically hush someone up, I’m sure there have been times when you’ve wished a certain person would stop talking, arguing, etc.  And why do we take the bait and continue an argument?  We all know arguing doesn’t provide any benefit.  My hubby Jeff is better at practicing that truth than I am.

Jeffrey means “peacemaker” and he is so good about choosing wisdom instead of irrational behavior, at least most of the time.

I used to be a terrible hot-head, but God has been working with me on that.  May I tell you a personal story before we get to what caused me to write this today?  When my oldest Matthew was little, maybe 18 months or so, I had a terrible temper, especially when driving.  Unfortunately, I learned the behavior of yelling at other drivers from my dad (no disrespect intended!).

On this day, someone cut me off in traffic and I yelled out, “You dumba**!!”  No, my language is not always clean; sometimes it has “colors”.  I immediately heard the Holy Spirit rebuke me and say, “You will never talk that way again.”  I became very aware of my little boy in the backseat and I realized I was passing down a behavior that had been passed down to me.  This was one of many indicators that I was called to stand up and not allow the generational sins of my family to be passed along.

And that’s part of why Still the Mom exists today because I am aware of a mandate to stand at the intersections and call out for Truth.  But before you can call out to others, you must take a hard look at your own shortcomings.

I wish I had lived my life more like Jesus did.  He didn’t argue when people were being ignorant.  Instead, He asked good questions, making them think and decide for themselves.  He didn’t try to convince anyone of anything; He simply lived and taught Truth.

What about you?  Do you argue, or do you live Truth?  I’m working hard to exemplify the latter.  I’m not there yet, but that is my path!

  1. Taking a hard look at my own shortcomings is what assists as God’s Word is strengthening us. These blogs are so good and glad you mentioned them during your Word Of The Week. The love and energy put in this is so greatly appreciated. Each individual message is so profound!!
