Micah 5-7 / Revelation 7 / Psalm 135 / Proverbs 30:5-6
Something interesting has been happening lately when I pray for people. I don’t always see this but many times lately I have seen some of them in the Spirit and caught glimpses of their armor. I’ve seen helmets, breastplates, shoes (which include the shin guards), and I’ve seen crowns. God has even shown me what I look like in the Spirit, and it was much more impressive than I realized!
When studying about the armor of God from Ephesians 6:10-18, I’m fully aware that not only do we have spiritual armor, but Jesus Christ is our armor. So, while I’m seeing armor in the Spirit, Jesus Himself guards, protects, and defends each of us with pieces of armor.
Let me prove that to you beginning with Proverbs 30:5b, “He is a shield to all who come to Him for protection.” That is from the New Living Translation, (NLT).
Let’s backtrack just a bit and list the pieces of our armor, then we’ll prove that Jesus Christ is each piece. From Ephesians 6: the belt of truth, the body armor of God’s righteousness, the shoes of peace which are the Good News of the Gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
We’ve mentioned one proof that the Lord Jesus is our shield of faith from Proverbs 30. Let’s find Him in scripture as the belt of Truth. John 14:6, in The Passion Translation, (TPT) says, “Jesus explained, ‘I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Fatherexcept through union with me. To know me is to know my Father too.’”
Let’s prove that the Lord is our breastplate or body armor of righteousness. The New International Version, (NIV) translates 1 Corinthians 1:30 this way, “It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption.”
The Lord Jesus is our Good News shoes. The Gospel is referred to as the Good News. The Gospel is simply laid out in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and because Jesus’s coming, death, burial and resurrection are central to the Gospel, He is our Gospel of Peace.
The Lord Jesus is our helmet of salvation. Psalm 118:14: “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.” (NIV)
The Lord Jesus is our sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. To prove this one let’s go to John 1:1-4 also reading from the NIV. Here we learn about the Word, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
The Word as defined in The Strong’s Concordance states: “In John,” denotes the essential Word of God, Jesus Christ, the personal wisdom and power in union with God, his minister in creation and government of the universe, the cause of all the world’s life both physical and ethical, which for the procurement of man’s salvation put on human nature in the person of Jesus the Messiah, the second person in the Godhead, and shone forth conspicuously from His words and deeds.
So, when you are using the Word of God as your weapon (the only weapon you possess), you are wielding Jesus Christ Himself and He is a powerful weapon! I hope you are as convinced as I am that Jesus Christ is our armor. Now, go put on the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 13:14) and defeat the enemy!
