Zechariah 6-7 / Revelation 15 / Psalm 143 / Proverbs 30:24-28
As a worship leader, I always have a song playing in my soul; sometimes several songs are playing one after the other. Today I have one being sung in my soul and another that I’ve read from scripture. As I listened to both, I found a beautiful correlation. I’ll begin by sharing the song from Revelation 15, then I’ll share a verse from the song in my heart.
Revelations 15:3-4 in the New Living Translation, (NLT) reads, “And they were singing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb: “Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord God, the Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations. Who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed.”
Now the verse, then I’ll share my thoughts. This is from O Holy Night, that beautiful Christmas song: “Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is Love and His gospel is Peace; Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother, And in His name all oppression shall cease, Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we; Let all within us praise His holy name!”
We sang this song yesterday at Bethesda Springs Church and everyone’s hearts soared at the amazing majesty of our God being revealed by Holy Spirit. The parts that tie together in the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb (one and the same) from Revelation 15 and the verse from O Holy Night are these:
They were singing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb. And His law is Love and His gospel is Peace.
In the Old Covenant followers of God were subjected to offering sacrifices of grain, oil, wine, and animals so they could be right with God; that is the song of Moses, the law. But when the Lamb came to earth, lived a sinless life, died, was buried, and rose again, a new law was enacted, the Law of Love. We no longer must offer sacrifices for ourselves because Jesus Christ offered Himself in perfection and has removed our sin.
That’s why I especially enjoy the words from O Holy Night that confirm His law is Love. We are no longer held prisoner by the law that brought death; we have been graciously brought into a New Covenant through no work of our own. We were brought in because we are loved.
As one reads through the rest of verses 3 and 4 in Revelation 15, she is struck with the power, majesty, strength, and glory of God, to whom we belong. It’s difficult to grasp the fullness of what we’ve been given in Christ. As we wait tonight to remember His coming, embrace the beauty of His Law of Love that is being poured out on you and yours!
