Read the Bible in One Year: Day 41 – Unexpected Visitations

Exodus 30:11-31:18 / Matthew 26:47-68 / Psalm 32 / Proverbs 8:27-32

Does it hurt anyone else’s heart to the very core when reading about the way Jesus was treated when He was arrested?  They brought clubs and swords to arrest a man who loved peace and loved people, healing and feeding them.  Never mind the false accusations the religious leaders had against Him.  What did they think He was going to do to them that they had to bring weapons?

I guess that’s what deception looks like.  The promised Messiah, God’s own Son that they were all waiting for according to all the Old Testament prophecies, arrived in their lifetime, but because He didn’t arrive according to their expectations, they missed a huge blessing.

If I had been alive, what side would I have been on?  The side of the blind religious leaders?  The scared disciples?

How often have we missed an opportunity from the Lord because a person or situation showed up in an unexpected “package”?  Maybe that’s why I like to look for the unexpected.

Tomorrow is one month since our daughter lost her beloved fiancé Bradley and I still believe we were visited by an angel in disguise in our time with him.  I can’t fully explain it – I just don’t have the words or the understanding, but I know he impacted our family in eternal ways.  And I believe we did the same for him.

When your life is interrupted and you feel you have been brought closer to Heaven, don’t miss the opportunity to turn around and thank God for what He has done!  I’m thankful every day for God having brought Bradley into our lives, even though the time was way too short.

I’m anxious to get to Heaven one day and find out exactly what God intended.  But for now, I marvel at His saving grace and I’m full of praise once again (Once Again by Matt Redman).

The next time someone comes into your life, stop, and ask God what He intends.  To not do so may cost you an incredible blessing and life-altering experience.

I’m so glad I listened…
