Read the Bible in One Year: Day 53 – Do You Believe?

Leviticus 13 / Mark 6:1-29 / Psalm 39 / Proverbs 10:10

Mark 6:6 Jesus was amazed at their unbelief.

Each day as I read the Bible, sometimes a section catches my eye and sometimes just one phrase does.  Today, the above phrase caught my attention.  Jesus is back in His hometown of Nazareth, doing what He always does now – meeting in the Synagogue to teach on the Sabbath, and healing all those the Father sends.

But today is different.  Jesus has seen crowds following Him everywhere He goes, all wanting to be near Him so they can both hear what He has to say, but also so they can receive the healing He carries.  But in his hometown, they are deeply offended and refuse to believe Him.

Even though Jesus was God in human flesh, He still must have known He would be rejected by His own hometown.  And I bet it was hurtful to Him.  It would have made me sad to be rejected by the people who knew me best – my own family and friends.  Maybe this is part of why He was called a Man of sorrows.

Isaiah 53:3 He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

Amazed at their unbelief.  Amazed is feeling or showing great surprise or wonder.  Unbelief is incredulity or skepticism especially in matters of religious faith.

If Jesus were here now, teaching and performing miracles, would I believe Him?  What if I told you He is here, in the form of His Remnant Church, and He is still speaking and performing miracles through His word and His people.

Do you believe?
