Leviticus 27:14 – Numbers 1:54 / Mark 11:1-26/ Psalm 46 / Proverbs 10:23
Somebody stole my donkey!! Y’all, I just couldn’t help but laugh a little when reading Mark’s account of Jesus telling His disciples to go steal a colt. No, He didn’t actually tell them to steal anything, but to an onlooker it likely appeared that way.
He tells them to go into a village where they will see a young donkey that has never been ridden. They were instructed to untie it and bring it back. And if someone asked what they were doing, they were to tell them, “The Lord needs it and will return it soon.”
Okay, moving on from the funny part, I had another thought. Since Holy Spirit speaks to all of us, is it possible that those who were asking knew that if someone came to them saying that the Lord needed the donkey, it was okay to allow that? From all my years of hearing God and noticing an agreement among brothers and sisters in Christ, I think this is highly likely.
So, as odd as it may have appeared to everyone involved, perhaps Holy Spirit had spoken to everyone, so no one was taken by surprise, and everyone was blessed in the giving and receiving of this little donkey.
Going further, I’ve wondered – who told Jesus to get on the donkey, riding through the streets? And beyond that, who prompted the people to spread garments and leafy branches for Jesus to ride upon? Again, I think Holy Spirit was at work revealing the Messiah to those who were hearing and acting.
And that’s just what the spirit of prophecy is. From Revelation 19:10 Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus. I believe prophecy was at work in this whole story because Jesus was being revealed to everyone watching. And He is still being revealed today. I believe we can look for Him in all life’s circumstances, because He is always at work even when we don’t see evidence
