Numbers 15:17-16:40 / Mark 15 / Psalm 54 / Proverbs 11:5-6
Who can read the story of Jesus’s trial, abuse and crucifixion without being emotionally moved? It wreaks me every time. Even if I set aside the fact that Jesus was God in the flesh, and the reason He came was to die, the story is a brutal one.
But factor in His perfection, innocence and love for us and it’s unimaginable that He did what He did. In light of this pondering I want to offer you some foundational doctrine in the form of the Apostles’ Creed. This is what I believe…
believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Reading this also moves my heart and faith in a major way.
