Read the Bible in One Year: Day 80 – A Boat Full of Blessings

Numbers 32:1-33:39 / Luke 4:31-5:11 / Psalm 64 / Proverbs 11:22

When Jesus borrowed Simon’s boat, asking him to push it out into the water, did He already have in mind to do the miracle of loading the boats with fish? Was Jesus aware that His Father was choosing these men to be His disciples and walk with Him the next 3 years?

I say that in God’s Kingdom there are no accidents, no coincidences. God is a careful planner who does all He does with great intention and purpose. I believe Jesus knew these men would follow Him. And I believe He was excitedly looking ahead to overfilling their boats after He completed speaking to the crowd. I bet He was smiling on the inside the whole time! I would have been.

Do you believe God has good things in store for you? Things that He planned even before you were born? Is He an angry, stingy God or a God who can’t wait to load you with blessings? Let’s answer according to scripture.

Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation! Selah

2 Peter 1:3-4 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

Based on the above verses, I think my assessment of Jesus’s thoughts and intentions is correct. He delights to give us all we need! I think He was excited to bless Simon and the others with a great amount of fish! And He wants to bless you in the same way.  Maybe not with a boat full of fish, but with something that is specific to you.

Watch and wait for it!
