Numbers 33:40-35:34 / Luke 5:12-28 / Psalm 65 / Proverbs 11:23
Jesus’s wisdom fascinates me as we read through the Gospels. He was so dependent upon His Father and Holy Spirit, that they worked together in perfect unison as difficult situations arose. They worked together as the Truth was preached, people were healed and delivered from demons, and as their sins were forgiven.
Prior to Jesus’s coming, the forgiveness of sin was done by temple sacrifices, so most who were listening to Jesus were not aware that their long-awaited for Messiah had arrived and was preparing Himself to be the ultimate sacrifice for their sins and their healing. This is probably why the religious leaders were miffed, angry, whatever you want to call it, when Jesus told the paralyzed man his sins were forgiven. No one had said or done that before!
And the religious leaders didn’t express this aloud; they were keeping their evil thoughts within their own hearts. But Jesus knew what they were thinking because Holy Spirit could read their thoughts. Did you know that Holy Spirit can read the thoughts of men? That’s why scripture places such importance on us guarding our hearts and minds – because our actions stem from these two places.
We have the same opportunity for discernment in every situation. We may not be able to read the thoughts of others, but the Holy Spirit can give us insight, both so we’re able to combat evil and so we’re able to bring encouragement when others have doubts. Have you ever had just the right words at just the right time for someone? Have you wondered how you “knew” what to say? It’s by the discernment and leading of Holy Spirit that we know things we would not otherwise know.
That’s why it’s important to be daily filled with Him. Ephesians 6 tells us to put on the full armor of God so we can stand against the enemy. This must also be done daily. Ephesians 5:18 states: Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
These are two of your most important daily tasks – be filled and put on your armor. This will allow you to walk closely with Holy Spirit so He can direct you each day. How exciting it is to walk in His path each day!
