The Heart of the Father: Here is Love Vast as the Ocean

February 14, 2022

Are you beginning to be saturated in the love of the Father? I hope and pray you are because when we receive His love, we are forever changed. There is no one quite like a father to speak life-changing words, whether positive or negative. Whatever your earthly father spoke to you and over you certainly shifted your soul and influenced your destiny.

If in his imperfection your earthly father wounded you, I pray you will forgive him and allow God to heal that space in your heart. It will be for your good to forgive and allow yourself to heal. If your father spoke strong, beautiful words over you, give God thanks for this amazing gift!

There have been times in my life when I heard Father God speak to me and the power of His voice caused a physical and spiritual shift inside me. After my dad passed away in 2016, six months later we found ourselves embroiled in some difficulty in our church relationships. Six months after that, we had to move my mom into an assisted living facility against her will because she was in physical danger.

I was devastated by these three successive blows. As I became aware of a deep depression settling over my spirit. I had experienced that demon before; I knew I needed help. Unfortunately, it would be a while longer before help would arrive. I hung on to my faith by a thread and I walked through life as best I could.

I don’t remember the day, but I do remember the words. I clearly heard God’s Spirit say, “It’s time to move on from the grief.” And with those words spoken into my spirit, there was a shift. I knew the time of deep grieving had ended. I didn’t do anything to free myself, but God in His mercy left the ninety-nine to find me and bring freedom to my tired soul.

There is such power in hearing the spoken word of the Lord. I want to share from The Passion Translation (TPT) a story from Matthew 8:5-10 that proves the power of God’s spoken word: “When Jesus entered the village of Capernaum, a captain in the Roman army approached him, asking for a miracle.  ‘Lord,’ he said, ‘I have a son who is lying in my home, paralyzed and suffering terribly.’

Jesus responded, ‘I will go with you and heal him.’

But the Roman officer interjected, ‘Lord, who am I to have you come into my house? I understand your authority, for I too am a man who walks under authority and have authority over soldiers who serve under me. I can tell one to go and he’ll go, and another to come and he’ll come. I command my servants and they’ll do whatever I ask. So, I know that all you need to do is to stand here and command healing over my son and he will be instantly healed.’

Jesus was astonished when he heard this and said to those who were following him, ‘He has greater faith than anyone I’ve encountered in Israel!’”

Now I want to share with you a song mentioned in today’s title. Please listen to the song: Here is Love, Vast as the Ocean, by searching for your favorite version of it on YouTube. I want to include the first verse as originally written by William Rees; a Welsh minister born in 1802. This is a translation from Welsh to English by Richard B Gillion.

“Here is love like the seas, tender mercies like the flood; the Prince of Life dying–dying to purchase our life for us. Who can help remembering Him? Who can help declaring His praise? Here is love not to be forgotten while glorious heavens shall be.”

I am feeling very loved; I hope you are as well!
