The Heart of the Father: How He Loves

February 21, 2022

Valentine’s Day has come and gone but the love of God remains forever. God’s love remains because He is love–His essence is love–and He is eternal. He has always been, and He will always be. Sometimes when I start pondering God’s eternal existence and His ingrained nature, my brain starts to hurt. We are so used to everything on earth being limited and finite that eternal and intrinsic concepts can be hard to grasp. Sometimes, instead of fully understanding these ideas, we must accept them by faith.

As you have joined me this month to learn about God’s love for you, I am confident He has revealed His love to you the way The Passion Translation(TPT) describes in Romans 5:5,And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!”

I want to share with you the simple words for this week’s song; How He Loves. As usual, feel free to search for your favorite version on YouTube and soak in this beautiful song!

“He is jealous for me – Love’s like a hurricane, I am a tree bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are and how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us, oh. Oh, how He loves us. How He loves us all.

And we are His portion, and He is our prize. Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes. If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking. And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss and my heart turns violently inside of my chest. I don’t have time to maintain these regrets when I think about, the way… He loves…”

God’s love for us, when received deep into our hearts, changes everything about us. Let’s look at some of the phrases from this beautiful, poetic song. When we are likened to a tree, His love like a hurricane and His wind like mercy, that tree is not going to break. I see this bending as one of worship; as one of being weighed down by His beauty and His glory. This is a good weight and a good bending.

And when we are under the weight of His mercy and we are worshipping there, we lose sight of all the trouble in our lives in favor of His great love. The troubles have not disappeared, but they have been put into perspective: His love is greater.

One of the definitions of the word portion is one’s destiny or lot in life. A prize is defined as a thing given to the winner of a competition. The ultimate showdown was at the cross where we became His destiny, the ones for which He fought. While He became our reward. He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), at that point we won the ultimate victory, even though we did nothing.

Can you imagine sinking into His eyes and swimming in the grace found there? That is a beautiful description of the love of the Father. And can you imagine once you catch a glimpse of His love and grace how your heart would explode with the revelation?

We received all this for free; the love, grace, mercy, and glory. He gave and gave and gave, and all we have to do is receive, receive, and receive. We only need to say, “Yes” and we have it all with no strings attached. Yes, we will be attached to Him because of His love! But He is not waiting for us to perform so we can keep His love!

This has been an intensely beautiful month of soaking in the love of our heavenly Father! I pray it has blessed you and I pray you have grown in love and faith.
