Word of the Week: Calm

Our word for the week is calm, which means “free from agitation, excitement, or disturbance”.  I know, you’re giving me the side-eye right now and thinking how could we possibly experience calm with all that is happening around us?

But it is possible because calm is a choice.  We can’t control the chaos outside and all around us, but we can choose what’s happening on the inside of our hearts and minds.  I think we must develop the practice of not allowing the chaos outside to influence the chaos inside.

If you’re a Christian like I am, your chaos can be calmed by your faith.  If that’s not where you are currently, I’d love to encourage you to join me or talk to me.  But until you’re ready for that, try some deep breathing and consciously settle your thoughts.  We are able to choose what we focus our thoughts on.

There’s a scripture I love for times like this.  It’s in Colossians 3:1-2 NKJV.  “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

That last part is especially simple to follow.

Will you make a choice with me today?  Embrace the calm instead of the chaos.  I know you’re able!
